Cheng-Ho Yang: LPIC Level 2 新版考綱 4.0 即將上路

自2012年8月1日釋出修正的 3.5 版本考綱範疇之後，新版本的 4.0 也即將於今年的 10/1 正式上路，這次的版本異動比起 3.5 來說算是幅度稍微大一些的變化，有興趣的朋友可以參考官方網站的相關詳細說明。底下為筆者整理的相關異動分析：

新增考綱 200 Capacty Planning，主要是要針對受測者對於系統實際資源的使用情況進行監控，並且學習如何預測後續或者是運作中的系統所需要的實體資源狀態。這個考綱基本上並不會太難，所測驗的相關細節基本上還是屬於在 LPIC Level I 部分範疇內，因此對於考生準備上應該不會太過複雜。
原先201的Linux 核心部分將 3.X 版本的核心增加更多的項目近來，並且將原先的 201.3、201.4與201.5範疇合併為201.3。權重也提升到4分。
在202系統啟動項目中添加PXE的使用方式，與其他替代Linux啟動載入器的項目。
在203檔案系統與裝置項目中刪除原本的203.4關於udev裝置的管理機制。
原先的205.4系統相關事件通知移動到206.3
在208網頁服務項目中添加Nginx的使用，包含建置網頁伺服器與建置反向代理伺服器。
在210網路用戶端管理項目中原先僅考LDAP用戶端的使用，在新版本中添加210.4針對LDAP伺服器的組態進行測驗。
在212系統安全項目中，將OpenVPN的使用獨立一個子項目為212.5，而212.4 TCP包裹程式的使用則被移除。
原先的213故障排除項目整個被移除。

4.0在相關主題權重上也略有異動，但整體比較驚豔的部分是在將OpenVPN、MRTG、OpenLDAP Server等主題添加近來，並且將部分不符合時宜的考綱項目剔除，當然最後的呈現仍得看實際的考試上場後才比較可以確認異動的變化狀態，但至少從目前的更動狀況來說，對於受測的考生而言是一個不錯的消息。

Participar en una Akademy, el mayor evento KDE de Europa, es un hecho muy enriquecedor, tanto si vienes de oyente o como participante.

Pero si además crees que puedes ayudar de alguna forma al éxito pero no te atreves a hacerlo subiendo al estrado, hacerlo como voluntario es tu camino.

Los organizadores de Akademy 2013 de Bilbao están buscando voluntarios que les eche una mano para que esta Akademy sea una de la mejores de la historia.

Simplemente se necesita gente que tenga ganas de ayudar durante unos días a un gran evento, sin necesidad de tener ninguna habilidad especial, simplemente que sean extrovertidas para los eventos sociales, técnicas para ayudar en el montaje de las infraestructuras o cualquier otra para guiar a los demás para encontrar la sala de conferencias.

openSUSE News: Announcing the First Keynote for oSC: Georg Greve on Freeing our Data

The openSUSE conference will feature Georg Greve as first keynote speaker, opening the event on Friday morning. He will talk about “Freedom in the world we live in and the value and importance of communities and Software Freedom”. That’s a mouthful and we’ve asked him to tell us a bit about himself and what he’ll talk about.

Personal life

We managed to catch him just before he was going to Hamburg for the holidays with the family, actively cleaning up the house and preparing for an early leave the next morning. Georg, born in ’73 on the tiny island of Helgoland outside the coast of northern Germany, spent the first 8 years of his life in this reclusive community before moving to the big city. There he studied biophysics and came across Free Software in 1993. Five years later he was the European speaker for the GNU Project, writing the well known ‘Brave GNU World’ column and in 2001 he initiated the Free Software Foundation Europe. Since 2009 he is the CEO of Kolab Systems AG and lives with his wife and “two utterly gorgeous” twin boys in the neighborhood of Zurich, Switzerland.

We asked him about what he will share with us at the openSUSE Conference.

Georg: “I’m sure everybody is aware of current events around the leak of Prism. Watching it all unfold has been interesting from a variety of angles, both for our communities as well as the larger version of community: society at large. It is awesome that people look at what is going on, care and get upset. But at the same time, it is weird that they get upset now as much of this has been known for quite a while. If you cared for this topic at all you could have learned all of this from public sources in the past. Not with such detail and in such depth or with the drama, but the gist of it was actually not very much hidden. The fact that the USA treats its own interest above everything else and isn’t shy to use its power, knowledge and military for its self interest and most importantly the interest of its corporations isn’t exactly news. It has been like this for quite a while and they have been quite upfront about it.”

Jos: But at least people are angry about it, now…

Frenemies?

Georg: “People are shocked. But a few years too late. It is good that they are but we should ask the question: why is it worse to give your data to the government (which may use it in name of the corporations) rather than giving it to the corporations directly?

And people give their data willingly. Even the public sector is affected, just last week the Swedish government banned Google Apps usage in Sweden. They noted that it could not be guaranteed that the data would remain private. News, really? Perhaps there will be some rethinking of our over-eagerness to try new things (which is good) but will that message reach far enough? Will people realize that the problem is not the behaviour of the USA?”

Jos: Shouldn’t we, in the rest of the world, be angry at the USA?

Georg: “The United States are a sovereign nation and they can do what they want to do, nobody can stop them. The real question is about the control over our data. And this control (or lack there-of) results from the software handling it.”

Jos: So to control the data…

Georg: “… we need to control the software, yes. Of course, this is what we are about, as Free Software community: we create the tools to control our data ourselves, or make it possible that we can let someone we trust exercise that control. What we have to learn is that it’s not just about building the best tools in the world and throwing them out. From that follows too little. Good technologies have lost in the past. We need to evolve a professional ecosystem around these technologies to make sure that what we build reaches people, becomes available, accessible, is FUN to use for people. We need to target and reach that part of society which can’t do it themselves, who are not geeks. Geeks can always protect themselves – sure. But if we are satisfied with that we withhold the ability to protect themselves from the 98% who do not have the skills and knowledge to do so.”

Jos: Your message is then that we need to communicate more about our software?

Georg: “We need to go out more, become more professional. More grown-up in a way, at spreading that technology into the world at large. Some companies have successfully been doing that, but it is still not sufficient. We need to do this more pro-actively, and also build more of an understanding in some Free Software Communities about the important role that companies play in bringing the freedom to users. At the end it is about getting better as an ecosystem in providing that freedom to people in all ways that matter, including economically, so they can afford to take control over their own data.”

In the end, it’s about creating the world I would like to live in, and working with others to help us get there.

At this point the twins decided to derail our conversation, having discovered a new and innovative way of getting themselves soaked in some puddle. Making the world a better place while taking care of kids isn’t easy for sure. But Georg is working on it. He decided to join Kolab because “Groupware is the final pillar of Free Software that needs to become ubiquitous before Free and Open can become a choice for corporations on the corporate desktop”.

We’ll hear how that is going in about 4 weeks: on July 18, registration and opening party starts in Thessalonki! If you have not registered yet, you should do so as soon as possible. Of course, we plan on live streaming as many of the sessions as we can and make them available after the event as well. But nothing beats being there in the flesh so if you can, gear up and get ready to join oSC!

Robert Schweikert: The Resourcefulness Of Our Great Community — An Example

At the risk of stepping on other people’s toes let me apologize before I start. I am certain we have many members in the community that have gone out of their way to overcome hurdles placed in their way by our “organization” or others. I was inspired by this story because it shows how dedicated our community members are and it really fits well with some of the issues we are still struggling with in the transition from Boosters to SUSE team and the transition between initiatives, Ambassadors to Coordinators and shipping of DVDs to boxes of promo material for designated events.

Peter Czanik was caught in the middle of all of this at a recent FSF conference where he and others had an openSUSE booth. With no DVDs being shipped, due to the transition in the promo material shipping procedure (this has been announced) and no money available through TSP for local production of marketing materials due to a snafu (a temporary solution is in the works) there was basically no help from the resources where help should be coming from, sorry about that Peter.

Despite these obstacles Peter and the team showed up and made due with what was available to have great success. In Peter’s words:

- distributed the last few remaining openSUSE 12.2 DVDs. Many people complained, that it’s not the latest and greatest, but also many were happy, as they have an old machine and older Linux versions usually have lower resource requirements.
- reused the posters we printed last autumn to decorate the booth (at the end of the day they were in a sorry state, so can’t be reused any more…)
- used the few remaining openSUSE brochures, stickers we printed last year (printing was contributed last year by somebody working at a printing company and our company printer…)

- used my ARM machines and a few borrowed mini PCs to demo openSUSE and make the booth eye catching (people asked about the machines and went away with openSUSE DVDs and brochures )

So, in short: last autumn we had local contributions from community members, this year we used what was last few bits of it and some creativity.

The good thing is, that I was told from multiple directions, that openSUSE had the best booth among software projects at the conference (and they did not know, that it was from a ZERO budget…).

The bad thing is, that we don’t have any marketing materials left. No DVDs, posters or brochures.

There is no need to rose color the situation, leaving community members trying to represent openSUSE at a conference stranded like this should not happen and there is no excuse for creating this situation in the first place. Work is proceeding to address these issue. However, I want to focus on the positive, and that is undoubtedly how determined Peter and the team were to make the conference a success and how they overcame the obstacles presented to them.

Thank you Peter and team fro being such dedicated representatives of our community and project. Also thank you for pointing out the shortcomings in our current transition period. This will allow us to address these, hopefully in short order.

As I mentioned, am am certain many of you have similar stories to tell. Thanks for your efforts as well.

Victorhck: openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 2 + Ruby YaST

Prueba y testea en tu propio equipo esta combinación de lo último de openSUSE, ¡participa en el desarrollo!

En el blog ya he publicado el reciente lanzamiento de la segunda Milestone de openSUSE 13.1, y también pudiste leer en primicia la noticia del proyecto de migración de la herramienta YaST a lenguaje Ruby.

Y hoy te traigo esta nueva noticia en primicia! Ya puedes testear y probar una Milestone 2 paralela con algunas partes de YaST ya traducidas a Ruby.

Como ya pudiste leer en el artículo anterior, unos desarrolladores están creando una herramienta para traducir YaST de lenguaje YCP a Ruby, lo que han llamado el proyecto YCP killer. La transición debe ser automática, crearon ese “traductor” y mejoraron el núcleo de YaST para que pueda ejecutar módulos de Ruby.

Su propósito es traducir todos los módulos de los que consta Yast de lenguaje YCP a Ruby y tenerlo preparado para la próxima openSUSE 13.1

La parte más delicada de YaST es el instalador, por lo que necesitan que muchos usuarios lo prueben, y reporten problemas y errores, antes de cambiar todo y que haya errores mucho más graves derivados de esto.

Y para ello, han creado unas imágenes ISO alternativas para instalar la reciente Milestone 2 de openSUSE 13.1 con YaST convertido a Ruby.

Para descargar esas imágenes tienes 2 opciones, un DVD completo, que es básicamente la ISO de la Milestone 2, y un mini DVD que contiene sólo lo necesaio para hacer una instalación mínima. Se recomineda descaragr el DVD completo, pero si tienes problemas de rapidez de descarga puedes probar el mini DVD. Sólo está disponible para arquitecturas x86_64

Las ISO’s de descarga las puedes encontrar en estos enlaces:

Para probar las imágenes necesitas arrancar con la opción de arranque “insecure=1″ ya que el instalador no está firmado de manera oficial por SUSE GPG. Durante la instalación necesitarás aceptar la llave GPG usada en YaST:Head:ruby project.

Pero si ya has instalado openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 2 y quieres probar cómo funciona YaST traducido a Ruby también lo puedes hacer, para ello debes seguir estas pautas, añadiendo el repo correspondiente:

→ añade YaST:Head:ruby

 zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/openSUSE_Factory/YaST:Head:ruby

→ reemplaza todos los paquetes de YaST usando dup para que cambien de proveedor

zypper dup --from YaST:Head:ruby

Y ya puedes probar ty Ruby YaST, usándolo de la misma manera que usarias el YaST clásico escrito en YCP.

Necesitan que muchos usuarios lo prueben y reporten errores, bugs, o cosas que no funcionan como deberían. Por supuesto recordar que este software está en fase previas de desarrollo por lo que no está indicado para el uso diario y normal de openSUSE. Sólo está indicado para testear, y para los Geekos valientes!!

Hay una serie de bugs ya conocidos, puedes consultarlos e informar de otros, como siempre TÚ puedes participar en el desarrollo de este software tan importante dentro de esta distro de GNU/Linux!! Para informar de bugs y errores puedes hacerlo en este enlace:

Baltasar Ortega: Nos vemos en Akademy-es 2013 de Bilbao

Por si alguien no se ha enterado, el próximo mes de julio los amantes de KDE tienen una cita en la maravillosa ciudad de Bilbao, concretamente del 11 al 12 de julio.

Y yo, por cuarto año consecutivo, no voy a perderme la cita y acudiré con mi familia para compartir unos días con gente maravillosa que ya conozco y con gente maravilloso que seguramente me encontraré.

Así que si me queréis conocer en persona o queréis conocer a la mayor parte de los integrantes de KDE España os animo a que vengáis con nosotros (no olvidéis registraros) y que compartamos experiencias, ideas y proyectos que beneficiarán al gran proyecto que es KDE.

openSUSE 12.1 dosáhlo konce svého vývojového cyklu. Toto vydání přišlo na svět dne 16.listopadu 2011 a bylo s námi 19 měsíců. V souvislosti s vydáváním nových verzí každých 8 měsíců to znamená, že aktuálně podporované verze jsou 12.2 a 12.3 a připravovaná verze 13.1, která vyjde koncem tohoto roku! Pro uživatelé, kteří používají verzi 12.1 přišel čas přejít na novější verzi a vytěžit z ní víc lepšího a rychlejšího softwaru!

Jak vysvětluje security a maintenanace tým ve svém prohlášení:

openSUSE 12.1 bylo první vydání udržované v OBS („OBS Maintenance“), dovolující plné zapojení komunity, již od začátku. V současné době nejsou žádné plány o přidání 12.1 do projektu Evergreen. Pokud se něco změní, pak vás budeme neprodleně informovat. Zde najdete pár statistik updatů (v porovnání s verzí 11.4):

celkové updaty: 789 (+5)
bezpečnost: 389 (-28)
doporučené: 398 (+92)
opraveno CVE: 1508 (+193)

The openSUSE Conference 2013 is ad portas and the media has already caught on to this Open Source event in Thessaloniki, Greece. There was a recent request for having an ad about the openSUSE Conference featured in a German Linux magazine. I quickly jumped to the action looking for ideas on what ways are more effective in delivering an ad about our project.

The first thought was to make something that talked about the conference and the things that will make the conference shine. However, a second thought also came through. The openSUSE Conference is just the result of a much bigger project, the openSUSE Project. If we are to feature an ad about our conference it should be centered on the project and not the conference necessarily.

Why? Because there are many conferences and events every year. It is hard for the general public to know and acknowledge the differences of conferences around the Linux world. However, there is only 1 openSUSE Project. The conference's main event is not the conference itself, it is openSUSE. Therefore, I thought that rather than having the conference-made logos and graphics, we should focus on the main event, openSUSE.

In the end, this is what will go on the magazine. I hope you like it!

Chat with Cloph, lunch. Chat with Marcos from Brazil, working on improving the equation editor. Fixed up some Arabic / UTF-8 in C++ that I pushed, apparently some compilers can't cope, dug at some bugs, reviewed a patch or two. Mail chew.

Linux sigue siendo el líder absoluto entre las 500 supercomputadoras.

Todos los años la web TOP500 saca un par de listas donde da a conocer diversos datos de los 500 supercomputadores del mundo. En Junio y en Diciembre se actualizan esas listas y se difunden.

Desde esa web se puede filtrar contenido, leer interesantes noticias sobre supercomputadoras con nosécuantos núcleos, y capacidades increibles de procesado de datos, los petaflops se manejan como si nada!!

Y hoy han anunciado el lanzamiento de su lista de Junio de este año 2013, y las supercomputadoras Chinas que llegaron hace tiempo al número uno siguen ocupando esos primeros lugares. Podéis visitar su página y ver la cantidad de datos que son capaces de calcular… a mí se me escapan esas cifras de la cabeza!!

Bueno, pero a lo que voy. Esas supercomputadoras necesitan un sistema operativo que las controle, y que gestione todas sus tareas. Y para ello ¿qué creeis que ha escogido el 95% ? Acertásteis si pensasteis en Linux !!

Pues sí es el sistema operativo elegido en una GRAN mayoría. Será por su versatilidad, o por su capacidad de poder modificarlo adaptádolo a las necesidades, su seguridad, o por muchas de sus otras características y que a los administradores de estos sistemas les ha convencido de lleno!

Quizás como sistema operativo doméstico no este a la par que otros sistemas operativos privativos, pero desde luego a nivel empresarial, y en ámbitos más serios es el líder indiscutible!!

Y dentro de Linux también se puede hacer una clasificación por sistemas operativos utilizados. Y entre ellos vemos muy bien posicionado a SUSE Linux Enterprise así que si es bueno para una supercomputadora, por que no va a serlo para mi pequeño equipo de escritorio o para mi portátil?

Ya sabes, puedes decir orgulloso: Uso el sistema operativo que utilizan los grandes !!!

Сеть в Xen работает по принципу виртуального моста, как рассказывается здесь: http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Networking.

Сначала, надо сделать этот самый мост. В /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-br0 надо написать буквально следующее:
BOOTPROTO='dhcp4'
# как для простого интерфейса, можно и статический адрес задать
BRIDGE='yes'
BRIDGE_FORWARDDELAY='0'
BRIDGE_PORTS='eth0 eth1'
BRIDGE_STP='on'
# если два активных физических интерфейса в мост собраны,
# то пакеты могут и по кругу пойти без Spanning Tree Protocol.
STARTMODE='auto'
ifcfg-eth0 и ifcfg-eth1 лучше просто удалить, чтобы не мешались.

Теперь у нас есть самый настоящий мост, который можно вписывать в параметры конфигураций доменов: http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/4.2-testing/misc/xl-network-configuration.html.

Дальше запускаем домены, и проверяем, что появились их бэкендные интерфейсы:
# brctl show br0
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
br0 8000.52540035c714 yes eth0
eth1
vif1.0

Дальше настраиваем внутренний интерфейс домена, как это происходит обычно.

Como he ido hablando en el blog, la UNED de Vila-real ha organizado un ciclo de conferencias sobre Software y Hardware Libre en su centro.

Ya estamos al final del curso y nos quedan un par de jornadas: el taller de Arduino++ del 26 de junio y la Fiesta de Lanzamiento de KDE 4.11 del 24 de julio.

Pero centrémonos en el taller de Arduino, un taller de 3 horas para aquellas personas que ya tengan algo de conocimiento sobre Arduino, aunque las que no sepan nada también están bienvenidas.

A continuación, el cartel que nos da casi toda la información de la jornada.

ARDUINO++; Conectando cosas con Arduino Ya tenemos nuestro Arduino y hemos ido a uno o varios workshops de introducción, pero todavía no tenemos claro qué podemos/queremos hacer con este aparato. En este taller, se abordarán conocimientos sobre sensores y actuadores para que la experiencia con Arduino (y la electrónica en general) sea lo más amplia posible. Cada uno de los asistentes deberá contar con los siguientes materiales: *Ordenador; Portátil o equipo de sobremesa, no importa Sistema Operativo. *Placa Arduino y cable USB para su conexión con el ordenador. *Kit workshop de componentes. También se puede asistir como oyente a la charla, aunque para la realización de ejercicios sería necesario al menos llevar un ordenador.

Se recomienda confirmar asistencia (para controlar el número de asistentes y buscar la mejor aula) en la secretaria de la UNED 964 52 33 61.

Luca Beltrame: 4.11 beta 1 packages available for openSUSE 12.3

As a consequence of the recent changes in the repositories, the openSUSE KDE team is happy to announce the availability of packages containing the first beta of the KDE Platform, Workspaces and Applications 4.11.

Packages are available in the KDE:Distro:Factory repository. As it is beta software, it may have not-yet-discovered bugs, and its use is recommended only if you are willing to test packaging (reporting bugs to Novell’s bugzilla) or the software (reporting bugs directly to KDE). For specific queries on the 4.11 beta not related to specific openSUSE packaging, use the KDE Community Forums 4.11 Beta/RC area.

openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 2

Le développement de la version 13.1 continue avec la sortie d’une nouvelle version de développement: la Milestone 2.

C’est une version réalisée uniquement pour les tests, elle comprend de nombreuses corrections de bugs par rapport à la Milestone 1 et beaucoup de logiciels ont été mis à jour, entre autres nous retrouvons :

Fin du support de la 12.1

La version 12.1 est arrivée au terme de son support officiel. Sortie le mercredi 16 novembre 2011 le délai de support qui est de deux sorties officielles + deux mois a été dépassé le 15 mai dernier.

Il n’y aura pas de support prolongé via le projet Evergreen pour cette version.

Changement dans les dépôts KDE

Alors que KDE SC vient de sortir sa première bêta de la version 4.11: http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.11-beta1.php, les dépôts KDE d’openSUSE ont subit quelques changements :

KDE:Distro:Factory est maintenant composé des paquets pour KDE 4.11 en développement.

KDE:Release:410 a été découplé de KDE:Distro:Factory pour rester sur les versions mineures de KDE 4.10.

KDE:Unstable:SC continue de livrer des instantanés de KDE provenant des dépôts git.

Si vous testez les paquets 4.11, pensez à reporter les éventuels bugs concernant le packaging sur https://bugzilla.novell.com/ et les problèmes trouvés sur les logiciels sur bugs.kde.org.

Changement dans YaST

YaST, l’outil de paramétrage et d’administration est en train d’être réécrit en Ruby pour la future version 13.1 d’openSUSE.

YaST a initialement été écrit dans son propre langage, YCP, mais depuis plusieurs mois les développeurs travaillent à le convertir en Ruby. Il sera ainsi beaucoup plus accessible pour les développeurs. Le projet surnommé « YCP Killer » a la lourde charge de retranscrire tous les modules de YaST.

Off to the hack-fest, lots of people there, poked at some horrible performance problem in a participant's monster document; interesting - lots of styles. Michael S. found and fixed an evil writer most annoying bug in 4.1, caught up with Astron, lots of fun. Caught up with Tim as I left, a good hack-fest.

Lengthy train (must remember to be in the right end of the Hamburg airport train - note to self: listen to Stephan harder); plane; coach; other coach; bed tired.

I’m not going to osc13

Sunny sky, rainy heart today.

Two days ago, I took the decision to not assist the certainly most fabulous openSUSE Conference next July in Thessaloniki.

A conjunction of several factors lead to that decision.
First what I regret was the chosen date. Damn July is the only expensive period to travel to Thessaloniki. The plane ticket never drop below the 800€ (hey! for sure I want to have Françoise with me), especially with the late announce of precise days. May, June, September would have been so cheaper…
I can understand the choice main sponsor SUSE do, and their need to spread osc and SUSECON at a 6 month delay in the year’s schedule, but sadly does not work for me this year.

Thessaloniki port

Secondly after February marketing hack-fest, I missed (I still don’t know how) the opportunity to get my travel reimbursed by the TSP and then loose half of the budget for osc. Before TSP get improved, and send a bounce email to ask you to send back your forms. So if you are sponsored for osc, fill and send back your expenses quickly after the event. Don’t believe you do it, check twice you really do it! Don’t suppose, be sure!

Another side, I already knew that a customer project will happen during that time-frame. As it concerns a lot of partner’s I’ve to take in account the availability of each of them. Unfortunately, after believing that it could be doable to free-up time for osc I decide to stop persecuting myself, and make a deal to live in peace and go ahead: no osc this year.

Maths have their say: statistically, more osc will be, more the chance to miss one will increase ( I know still not a real excuses)

I would like to share my deep apologizes to the whole Greek Community in charge of OSC13. You all know, how I was and still am a big found of your commitment and really appreciate each of you.
I will all miss you!

I really hope osc13 will stay in history as one of the ever greatest conference organized.

Don’t worry Thessaloniki, I know how great the place is, kind the people are, etc..
I’ll be back soon!

Se acerca el 14 de agosto, la fecha en que tendremos entre nosotros al magnífico KDE 4.11, sucesor de KDE 4.10 y nuestra versión de KDE por mucho tiempo.

Para que este lanzamiento sea lo que todos esperamos el equipo de desarrolladores ya están lanzando sus versiones beta para realizar las pruebas y ajustar errores.

De esta forma, el pasado 13 de junio se lanzó la primera beta de KDE 4.11, lo cual supone que no se van a incorporar más novedades y que toda la comunidad de KDE involucrada en el desarrollo se va a centrar en la resolución de bugs, es decir, en dejar KDE 4.11 lo más libre de errores que sea posible.

Entre las novedades que nos va a ofrecer KDE 4.11 nos encontramos (copiado y pegado del magnífico blog Ubunlog)

Qt Quick: Los espacios de trabajo de Plasma continúan siendo implementados en QML gracias a la magia de Qt Quick. Esto permite que los componentes del entorno sean más poderosos y estén mucho más integrados. Algunos de los elementos que hacen su debut en QML en esta versión son el administrador de tareas y el monitor de la batería.

Nepomuk: Este componente básico de KDE ha recibido una importante cantidad de mejoras que lo hacen casi ocho veces más rápido que en versiones anteriores. Además ahora funciona en dos pasos: primero extrae la información general (nombre, tipo de archivo) y después la información específica (etiquetas de archivos MP3, por ejemplo).

Kontact: La suite Kontact ha recibido también importantes mejoras, como un nuevo editor para la cabecera de los correos, detección contra fraudes y mejoras en el importador.

KWin y Wayland: En KDE SC 4.11 Beta 1 se ha añadido soporte experimental para Wayland en KWin, el gestor de composición de ventanas de KDE Workspaces. También se han realizado una buena cantidad de mejoras enfocadas sobre todo a optimizar el rendimiento. Aunado a esto, algunos de los efectos del gestor han sido reescritos en JavaScript con el fin de hacer su mantenimiento más sencillo.

La segunda beta está planeada para el día 26 de este mismo mes.

En fin, mejoras y evolución, la característica básica de KDE desde sus inicios.

Off to the hackfest, great to meet up with a trickle of people old and new coming to hack on fun stuff. Realised that my list of invisible things in 4.1 - missed Eike's great continuing work on langtag / bcp47 etc. Also Bjoern / David O / Norbert's awesome gerrit / on-demand multi-platform build integration: select a sha1 hash to be built on all three systems and wait for the result. Poked at the docs for that with David.

Pushed Benjamin's patch, got Issa setup with push access and his new flat icon theme included; got Rolf setup with some comment translation. Caught up with the KACST guys, poked at lots of bits of code variously, fixed a number of UI / ergonomic issues. Up until 4am hacking with the hardest of the hard-core guys - struggling with some awful bugs.

Нижеописанное является вольным переводом статьи "Upcoming changes to openSUSE KDE repositories", автором которой является Luca Beltrame.

С выходом бета-версии KDE 4.11 в репозиториях openSUSE произойдут некоторые изменения.
Вкратце:

KDE:Distro:Factory будет содержать бета-версии и кандидаты в релизы 4.11. Эти версии пакетов рекомендуется использовать для тестирования и отправки сообщений об ошибках в KDE.

KDE:Release:410 отделена от KDE:Distro:Factory. Если вы используете KDE версии 4.10.x из репозитория KDF (KDE:Distro:Factory), то рекомендуется переключиться на репозиторий KDE:Release:410.

KDE:Unstable:SC не поменяется и будет далее хранить снимки из git репозиториев KDE.

Если вы тестируете 4.11, сообщайте об ошибках в пакетах (или других специфичных именно для openSUSE) в систему отслеживания ошибок Novell, и программных ошибках KDE в систему отслеживания ошибок KDE. Также для обсуждения проблем приветствуется использование специально созданной ветки форума сообщества KDE.

openSUSE-lernen.de: Unterstützung für openSUSE 12.1 beendet

openSUSE Versionen erhalten in der Regel 18 Monate lang die Unterstützung in Form von Updates und Pflege durch das Projekt. OpenSUSE 12.1, welches im November 2011 heraus kam, hat diesen Zeitraum jetzt hinter sich gelassen. Mit dem Release des Kernel Updates vom 06. Mai war für Version 12.1 Schluss. Für diese alte Ausgabe werden ab sofort keine Sicherheitsupdates mehr bereit gestellt und die Version wird nicht weiter durch das Projekt gepflegt. Anwender von 12.1 sollten über einen Wechsel zu einer neueren Version von openSUSE nachdenken.
Es ist auch vorerst nicht geplant, openSUSE 12.1 im Evergreen Projekt weiter zu führen. Wobei sich das auch durchaus noch wieder ändern kann.
Derzeit aktuell ist openSUSE 12.3 und im Herbst (geplant ist der 13.Nov. 2013) kommt openSUSE 13.1 raus. OpenSUSE 12.2 wird voraussichtlich noch bis Januar 2014 mit Updates und Patches durch das Projekt versorgt.

openSUSE 13,1 Milestone 2 está ya disponible para descargar y testear. Ayuda a los Geekos!!

Hoy se ha hecho el anuncio oficial de que ya está disponible para descargar la segunda Milestone de la próxima versión estable, la que será la versión 13.1, de openSUSE, este sistema operativo de GNU/Linux.

Así que puedes descargarte la nueva ISO y probar y testear, ayudando así a los desarrolladores y la comunidad de usuarios de este proyecto de GNU/Linux abierto a todos!

Para descargarla lo puedes hacer desde el sitio de costumbre: http://software.opensuse.org/developer/es

Seleccionando el método de descarga y la opción que desees. Recuerda que es una versión en primeras fases de desarrollo, por lo que puede no comportarse de manera estable, de eso se trata de probarla y ver en qué falla. Si encuentras algún error o fallo primero consulta los fallos conocidos para ver si ya ha sido reportado, y si no está no dudes en reportar tu mismo el fallo mediante Bugzilla.

Before focusing my spare time completely on the GSoC* (as I have mentoring responsibilities this year \o/ ), I wanted to solve a problem that cannot wait after July...

Yes, I've been victim of Google's cuts too... And I was wondering, where should I move? Feedly? ThingyBob? Well, I shouldn't make the same mistake twice, right?

Actually, some time ago I was using a desktop app to avoid relying on software that I cannot control (yes, vendor lock-in, the most important thing that open source tries to solve, right?): Thunderbird. But somehow the convenience of a web app (that I can access from any computer) and the hassle of using my mail client for RSS reading made me move to the web.

I should be able to find a replacement that no company or individual can "take down", and which feels less clunky than Thunderbird for reading RSS. So, enter blam (in the future I'll figure out how to sync its state between computers, maybe using SparkleShare?, to achieve that same convenience that a web-app provides), that Gnome app that has strangely managed to not catch my eye until now...

Well, maybe because if I install it from debian sid and I try to import my very first RSS feed from my GoogleReader list it doesn't work? Well, apparently it is a bug that is already fixed upstream, thanks to Carlos which has modernized the way that the program deals with XML and serialization.

Then I went ahead and tried to compile master myself... and guess what, the autogen.sh execution fails. Here the yak shaving begins, when I feel like this when trying to fix the autotools stuff:

Fortunately, after some tinkering (and some copy&paste from banshee's build scripts), I managed to fix the problem, and also modernized a bit some things (like using the brand new ".ac" extension instead of ".in" for the configure script, or using properly the AC_INIT and AM_AUTOMAKE_INIT macros,...).

Anyway, the real thing to highlight here is that while I was fixing this stuff and pushing to the repository...

... I saw some really good stuff committed by Carlos: using the new .NET 4.5 C# async patterns to get rid of those ugly callbacks! Kudos to him.

And if you're willing to help more with our autotools housekeeping, please do, I still feel this autogen.sh is way too long and needs some ironing.

* And if you're wondering what's up with GSoC (aka Google Summer of Code):

I had Nicholas Little lined up to work on Rygel+Banshee integration, but sadly he couldn't apply due to work commitments (hopefully he will still work with me on it in his spare time).
I had Rashid Khan lined up to work on Cydin+Banshee integration, but sadly there were not enough GSoC spots for him :( (fortuntately he told me he still wanted to work on it with me in his spare time).
I had Tomasz Maczyński lined up to work on Banshee integration with more REST APIs, and fortunately he was selected! So expect some nice FanArt.TV and SongKick plugins soon!

openSUSE 12.1 + KDE. Pocos cambios respecto de la última entrega, sólo el fondo de escritorio

Unos cuantos widgets, cada vez menos:

uptime display: Para ver el tiempo que lleva encendido el sistema

yaWP: Yet another Weather Display, para mostrar el tiempo, temperatura, etc…

Estado del disco duro: Que muestra el espacio disponible y usado del dsco duro que prefieras.

Monitor de red: Muestra de manera visual el tráfico de red.
